There is power in the light

Let your light shine in the darkness.

Matthew 5 verse 14-16

Spiritually speaking, there is no light in the world apart from Jesus Christ. His light shines through every person who belongs to Him. In this way, the light of Christ is distributed into the darkness in every corner of humanity. That this light is meant to be visible to the world is also important.

We live in a spiritual world that is hidden

We can’t see what God can see, things that are happening all around us all the time in the spiritual realm. We live in the physical, sometimes never giving thought to the spiritual with some people not even believing that it exists. The spiritual realm does exist, because we can’t see it with our naked eye doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. God can see and does see and knows what is happening around us at all times.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. How can we fight something we can’t see with our eyes, we can’t. In order to see what is happening around us we need spiritual eyes.

The closer we get to God the more our spiritual eyes begin to open, like a thin veil begins to lift and we are privy to some of the spiritual warfare that is taking place in our world.

The closer we get to seeing the battle taking place in the spirit the more of a threat we become, it becomes harder and harder to hide things from us.

I had something traumatic happen to me recently, that affected my life. I was spiritually aware that my decision to continue writing my book, might bring on a spiritual attack on my life. I knew that once I had committed myself to doing God’s work I would be under attack. As christians we are aware of this and the greater your God given purpose is the greater the attack. Yet, I was still absolutely shocked when the attack took place and was aimed directly at one of the things I hold dear to my life, my home.

It threw me, shocked me and in capacitated me for days while I tried to get to the bottom of it all. I was very angry and disappointed at the deception behind it all, more than the actual deed itself. I found some names attached to the incident and contacted them and told them in no uncertain terms (Not very gently or christian like) that they came knocking on the wrong door this time.

That anyone who tries to hide secrets of wrongdoing should avoid being in my orbit. Throughout my life I noticed that when someone trying to hide something bad, while in my presence it often came to light. Without my interference or even an awareness that truth was being twisted, the lies would bob to the surface. Sometimes and often I would also be damaged from the shrapnel when the deceit exploded. I thought this was something unique, like a spiritual gift I had until I met another Christian woman and had a conversation about this.

She explained this also happened to her frequently. I saw her explanation in picture form in my mind. “When you carry the light with you, anything the light touches, it brings it into the light as well” This includes shining a light on hidden things taking place in the spiritual realm. It should be no surprise then why Christians are under such attack. The closer we get to God the more the God’s light reflects onto us and we reflect it out into the world and bring to light the darkness.

Life isn’t easy for many people it’s often a struggle and being tempted into the darkness with the promise of riches can be very inviting. The decision to move in that direction is often based on fear. Fear of failure, disappointment, financial struggle, judgement, the need to please and the list goes on. That is why God commands us to put on the full armour of God daily because he knows the evil plans satan has for your life. That is why in the bible “Do not be afraid is written out 365 times, one for each day of the year, because God knows that is the weakest point of entry.

When you are overwhelmed by anxiety try and memorise just one verse that you can repeat over and over to yourself. I had one that helped me during my time of trial “If God be for me, who can be against me” He knows your needs and wants better than you do. But he wants a relationship with you so Pray, pray and pray. Nothing fancy and flamboyant just pray “God please help me or protect me or ….” God doesn’t it appears sometimes takes His time in answering prayers and even then not in the way you might expect. I was sixteen when a very big prayer of mine was answered in a way that just made me so unhappy I turned my back on God. That was the turning point in my spiritual life which actually cemented my Christianity. God answered my prayers in ways I couldn’t possibly have imagine that would only strengthen my faith.

God is gracious, and has only YOUR best interests at heart.

And remember we fight not against flesh and blood – there are spiritual wars taking place in realms we can’t see. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances.
